The scoop for 2007 from DnD's Quarters n Paints.
Mike & Diane Stafford of
M&D Stafford's Quarter Horse Ranch
John & Deb Roller of
Rollers Painted Acres
What an awesome year it has been at both places. Even with the daily challenges
life brings. Mike and Diane started off with losing Ante Up Precious due to colic. (in
foal to Cruiser) Libby will be missed and never forgotten. The foaling season was a
blast and we are very proud of our 2 stallions get for 2007. Cruiser now has his first
1/2 Arab cross and he is a DOLL, and his first paint foal a pretty Tobiano filly. Not to
mention some awesome AQHA foals.
But great heart ache fell upon them with the sudden loss of Mike's Dad, Harley.
Grandpa was a great man, and shared with others the old time survival skills he knew
so well. He will always be in everyone's hearts, and missed every day. During all of
this the birthing season was plugging away with the births of some mighty fine foals.
And breeding season was off to a great start for 2008. We will be looking forward to
those to. We where able to get MDS Reddie Fellas to a trainer to get her fit for limited
AQHA shows and she took 2nd place. Now weaning time is upon us and getting a
couple fit for the Michigan Quarter Horse Breeders futurities. We are pleased with the
numbers of confirmed bred mares for 2008. It will be interesting 2008 foal crop.
Diane had her hands full this year birthing out mares and caring for the foals. So
remember she is great at this. And I know, I have her to do mine...so I am speaking
from experience. She really knows her stuff.
We need rain really bad, our hay crops are terrible this year. Anyone know a good
rain dance? We keep hearing complaining from people on the rain they are getting.
Please send some to us. If only it was that simple huh?
Well at John & Deb's all breeding stopped until the Herda test came out and Dew
could be tested for it. Which it did and he came back N/N which means he is clear of
it. Man was I worried, at the time of getting him I had never heard of Herda.. BUT I
know it well now. And to anyone who raises Foundation horse's "PLEASE" educate
yourself on this horrific disease. It could mean saving the life of a innocent foal. So
with test results back we started a late breeding season with Dew. And was very
pleased with the 2 foals we where blessed with by MDS Yella Cruiser. And again I
want to "THANK" Mike & Diane for saving Sky & Diesel's life. Without them they both
would of been lost during her giving birth to Diesel. Then our pride and joy "Rain"
gave birth to her first foal, a bay Tobiano filly by Cruiser and Diane assisted with the
birth. It was perfect, the most beautiful & sweet event I have ever witnessed. And one
I will never forget! Sky was re bred back to Cruiser for 2008 and so is Rain. How do I
tell these foals that Diane really is the dad, Cruiser just donated his semen. HA HA.
We are getting ready to send Belle, our Tobi filly to the trainers for her first fitting for
the Michigan Stallion Service Sale Futurity. Wish her luck. I just traded the only paint
mare here that I had bred to Dew for a awesome cremello AQHA mare. Pictures as
soon as I can. She is bred to a pretty bay roan stallion. Now that foal should be
interesting. Bred a couple of outside mares to Dew also. Waiting to see if they took
or not.
Both places still have foals for sale, and Diane & Mike are leaving Cruiser's stud fee at
$500.00 for 2008. Ours are also staying the same. So hopefully all goes well over
the next few months and we have good luck at the shows. And we get some rain,
what else can one ask for. We have our health, our family and friends.
We would like to Thank everyone for a exciting 2007 year and can hardly wait for
2008's foal crop to get here. I am sure it is going to be one heck of a year for both
places. So till then...........Deb R
mid July
Well Diane decided it was time to wean the rest of the foals at her place, including my
colt. So now just one more to go, Belle and thats going to be a while still. She gelded
Piston and he is on his way to being a better horse. Might see about doing Diesel
next unless he is sold. Don't need any more studs around! ~LAter
